1   Link   Helicopter underwater escape and the initial response to cold.
The initial responses to immersion in cold water represent one of the first major hazards to be faced by individuals in a ditched helicopter. The acceptance of this fact has led to the provision by some organisations of emergency underwater breathing aids (EUBA). In this paper two approaches to the provision of an EUBA have been examined.

2   Link   The requirements for an Emergency Breathing System (EBS) in over-water helicopter & fixed wing operations.
NATOs comprehensive risk assessment into the provision of its crews with an EBS system for over-water operations.

3   Link   Review Of Probable Survival Times For Immersion In The North Sea
A report published by the HSE to provide industry with realistic survival times for offshore personnel immersed in the North Sea in a variety of circumstances, as an input to necessary performance criteria for rescue capabilities.

4   Link   CAA Paper 2003-13
Reports on an independent study of the development and implementation of the various forms of helicopter occupant emergency breathing systems, and includes a draft example technical standard for such equipment.

5   Link   CAA Paper 2005-6
This report summarises the results of the research activities on helicopter ditching stability and water impact carried out for the CAA over a period of about twelve years.

6   Link   CAP 641
A review commissioned in the wake of a 1992 oil platform accident following recommedations by the AAIB and the regional Sheriff. Addresses all aspects of offshore helicopter safety and survival.

7   Link   Surviving After Helicopter Ditching
A research paper commissioned by Shell Petroleum into suvival after helicopter ditching, but could just as well be applied to light aircraft.

8   Link   HSE Helicopter Safety Offshore
The study provides background material about helicopter accidents offshore throughout western Europe not previously summarised elsewhere, a review of relevant reports and a bibliography of reference material and associated research.

9   Link   Safetysense Leaflet 21d
This leaflet is mainly aimed at private operators of aeroplanes but much of the advice will be equally relevant for helicopters. It includes details of how to improve the chances of survival after a ditching.

10   Link   CAP1034
This document reports on the experimental work performed in support of the development of a technical standard for helicopter emergency breathing systems (EBS), and also contains the resulting technical standard. The work follows on from the review of EBS implementation and use reported in CAA Paper 2003/13, and is being presented to the EASA helicopter ditching Rule Making Task RMT.0120(27&29.008). The technical specification is offered for use by the industry where EBS is deployed on a voluntary basis, and will be promoted to EASA for use as the basis of a formal specification, i.e. a European Technical Standard Order (ETSO).

11   Link   CAP1145
The CAA has announced a series of measures to increase the safety of offshore helicopter flights. The changes are the result of a comprehensive review of offshore helicopter operations undertaken in conjunction with the Norwegian CAA and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and advised by a panel of independent experts.
